I'm a younger millenial, meaning I experienced a unique digital life—one where I experienced life before the ubiquity of the internet and social media, but yet I have played games my entire. All of that to say, games have had a huge impact on me and I appreciate them as the art form they can be. This page is to showcase some of the impact gaming has had on me.

My gaming history

I can cleanly split my gaming life in a moment of my youth when I had moved from California to Kentucky at the age of 5 in 1998. I don't remember much gaming before then, but we did have some consoles in our household like a Playstation and a Nintendo, which I remember playing Duck Hunt on and never winning.

After moving to Kentucky is when I really started picking up gaming. I have some old memories of playing Diablo 2 as a necromancer, having no clue what I was doing. I also remember playing LAN games of StarCraft on the various computers we had laying around.

I don't want to paint the picture that I was well off with technology everywhere. Technology was everywhere for me, but not at all well off. My father pirated games if we could, and only if we absolutely had to would we buy a game. As for the computers, we would scavenge what we could from family members whos PCs failed them---my father knew how to build computers so he had a collection of spare motherboards, RAM, disk CD-ROM and floppy drives and their cables (SCSI was the thing at the time I believe), CPUs around the apartment which we could use to play video games which didn't assume hardware accelerated graphics.

After my father got an okay-paying job, one Christmas us three kids opened an Xbox which we all shared. That launched off so many games for me. Fusion Frenzy, Munch's Oddysee, and Splinter Cell just to name a few. I remember two different christmases opening Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront II and playing the campaigns of those during Christmas break.

Games I've played

This list is on-exhaustive and self-selecting, of course. My mind remembers is mysterious ways. Regardless, these are games I have enjoyed or can proudly say I've beaten them or have some other kind of nostolgia/reverence associated with them.
